Different Types Of Muscles
There are different types of muscles that allow for different types of energy you can use while exercising, Slow Oxidative Fibers, Fast Oxidative Fibers, and Fast Glycolytic Fibers.
Slow Oxidative Fibers
These fibers use aerobic respiration and are used for endurance type activities. They are a red color most of the time.

Fast Oxidative Fibers
There are used for anaerobic exercises and cause burst of energy. These can range from pink to red.
|
Fast Glycoltic Fibers
Used for anaerobic exercises, and for short-term energy. Usually white and pale muscles.

Different Types Of Exercise
Along with different types of muscles, there are different types of exercises that help increase different parts of the muscle. But both allow for the muscle to grow strong and bigger over time.
Aerobic Exercise
This type of exercise requires air and increases muscle capillaries, which allow for more nutrients and material to get into the cell, mitochondria, which give the cell a lot of it's energy because it makes ATP, and also increases myoglobin synthesis, which is the protein that bonds to oxygen.
|
Anaerobic Exercise
These exercises don't require a lot of air in the muscles. It increases the cells sizes, making bigger muscles, mitochondria and myofilaments and glycogen stores are also increases. Because this exercise doesn't require air, it uses the glycogen, or sugar, in your body as energy.

Different Types Of Exercises To Use
Now that you know everything there is to know about how your body moves, grows, and how it is created, now is the time on how to learn how to make it strong and healthy, especially for marching band and those long, hot days in the sun in the summer.
Running
The most common type of exercise, running. This is a great aerobic exercise that uses a lot of air and endurance. This is perfect more marching band when you preform you are moving now stop and playing an instrument for up to 10 minutes. Not only does moving around for 10 minutes straight need a lot of air, you also need about twice as much for playing, so nice long runs should get you to a great start before band camp.
Weight Lifting And Push Ups
If you plan on laying a heavy instrument like a baritone, or even an instrument that requires your arms to be up in the air for that 10 minutes of performance, like a trumpet or mellaphone, then weight lifting is a must need before the season. Having your arms up for a long amount of time requires a lot more energy than you may think. To make your muscles bigger and have your glycogen sizes increase, anaerobic exercises are the best, so weight lifting and push ups are what you should do before the season.
